Oh man, I will try not to ramble, but here goes...
*Holiday from Real is one of my all time favs. The Rock Show makes me think of summer 2001, so this is fitting. Beach Boys and most of RHCP give me a summer vibe. As well as the vibes of In The Sun and Cape Cod. You're So Last Summer is a little harder, but it has summer in the title and TBS gives me good feelings anyways.
Mr. Jones is a classic. Lasso I'm excited to be in Rock Band 3 and Holiday is a great summer song. I don't know as many songs in Liz's mix so I will need to check that out.
I love summer.
Liz's mix has some real gems Matt. The Decemeberists' track is really under appreciated while The Fratellis inclusion has a smashing hook. Personally, I'm the lucky one that she'd want to share her musical taste on my blog. Finding good mix makers is a tough enough task, let alone ones that like to share them so publicly.
I'm definitely glad that you got the summer vibe from RHCP and Vampire Weekend. I almost didn't include them because thematically, they aren't obvious songs about being in the sun. However, I feel their contemplative nature and vivid metaphors exude that summer feel. Both of them have a very strong perspective of maturity, growing up, or coming of age, and that's why I ultimately included them.
My most biased pick was probably the TBS track, which in all fairness, reminds ME of summer. Love lost isn't necessarily seasonal, but that particular song (and the album it's from) reminds me of summer a great deal. I blame Warped Tour.
We are definitely musical soulmates. I dig out mixes!
I think it's good to have musical soul mates! :)
